World Sausage Hurling Championships

Back for a second helping, following the hugely successful first event, in June 2009...The World Sausage Hurling Championships, and Wallace's Family Fun day. On Saturday June 12th, from 10am to 5pm. Free Entry for everyone.

This year we are raising funds for the new Healthy Living centre in Hemyock, and the new Beacon centre at Musgrove hospital in Taunton.

There will be loads of activities on throughout the day for all the family, including, a local craft fair, the family Dog show, Falconry displays, Archery and sword fighting, and loads of games to have a go at.

And of course there will be dozens of different types of animal on view at Wallaces, and a few new suprises...but that's a secret. Come and see for yourself !

Our all day barbecue and bar will feature most of our best produce, but especially our sausages, and our Shop will have some amazing special offers on the day.

The Sausage Hurling will have four classes. The mens event will launch the huge Devon Dazzler, and we'll see if anyone can beat the 16m throw that won the top prize last year. The ladies will again get to grips with the Hemyock Hurler, as will our new category of teenagers, while the juniors will hurl the Baby Blackdown. Come on Folks, come and have a go !!

For a bit of fun, at the end of the day, why not enter our "guess the weight of the sausage" competition...It's a massive Salami !! And the prize...a gurt big sosage!!

TB testing the moows !

With a massive sigh of relief, I am delighted to tell my followers, that our herd of "Hairy Highlanders" have successfully passed their latest TB test. It is always a very traumatic time, waiting the three days between actually giving them a little bit of the disease, and waiting to see if they react to it, by developing a great big lump. Of course, the only outcome then is slaughter, although a laboratory test may subsequently prove the animal to have been clean. Pretty devastating, which way it happens. My favorite cow, Maureen of Auchnacraig (I call her Maggie), still hasn't calved yet. She must have been waiting for the warm weather, which has just arrived. Our Curry night in the Restaurant on friday 21st is now virtually fully booked...should be a good night !

Wild about Wallaces

It's been an interesting week this week. Three of our Pedigee Highland cows have calved, and can you believe it, three of our Bison cows have calved as well. The season might be very late, but we've only ever had one bison born in april before. Three born in two days is amazing. It's been great to have so much sunshine in april, but it's been so cold at night, so our grass is only just starting to grow now, especially now it's rained properly for the first time in a while.

I nearly came a cropper tonight! Blackfoot, the huge bull bison chased the quad bike and trailer around the field, probably because I had some apples in my pocket, and he wouldn't let me get away. Every time I stopped, he made like he was going to smash the quad bike up, infact, he did manage to rip one of the mudguards off. What do you think folks, do you think my insurance company would pay out if I told them that my Bison bull had wrecked my quad bike?? I wish I'd had a video camera with me, because he can be rather awsome...and majestic, and..... a little bit frightening!

On Saturday morning I rushed across the farm to see the cows. I kind of new that Maggie was getting awfully close, because she had been acting a bit odd. Wow, what a surprise! A little red Highland heifer, bright as a button cute as cute could be. The beginning of a new year of new births.
